Besides working on my MSW I work a part time position at a human trafficking safe house for women in the DMV area. It has been one of the great honors in my life to be able to work with survivors. This work aligns with my personal belief that everyone's story matters and the importance of giving them a chance to share it. Through this part time job I have had the ability to hear the stories of so many incredible women, stories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
Besides a deep love of social work I love to read, journal, hike and hang out with my cat Thea. I also enjoy painting, yoga, meditation and watching really bad scary movies. I have loved working on my MSW, but am excited to have more time for relaxation, hobbies, and hopefully travel (sometime in the future).
Getting my MSW has truly been an incredible journey. It went absolutely nothing like I thought it would, but despite the differences in expectations and the changes that had to be made this was still truly was one of the most worthwhile experiences of my life. I have learned so much about social work, myself, people, and the world. Completing this degree in the middle of a pandemic and multiple national reckonings have truly brought what it means to be a social worker to life. I am not sure that I would have been able to finish this journey without the support of my friends and family. Thank you for all of the encouraging words, proof reading, and home cooked meals. One of the important things that I have been reminded of throughout this adventure is how amazing my support system is and how incredibly lucky I am to have them in my life.
