Shanice E. Harris
I am a Zumba Instructor, Reiki Master, and Full spectrum Doula in training, who loves furry animals, large bodies of water, Double Stuff Oreos, and will watch Lion King and Hamilton like it’s the first time every time. Over the past two and a half years I have had the honor to serve UMB as a co-chair of The Alliance of Anti-Racist Social Work Practitioners, USGA Senator, and 2020-2021 USGA Treasurer. I am proudest of being among those who established the University Student Government’s first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion officer role as well as USGA’s new Equity Committee. As a Caribbean-American New Yorker, my time in Baltimore has taught me more about myself than I could have ever imagined, and I am constantly affirmed in my interactions within this community that I made the right choice to attend UMB’s School of Social Work. I will be starting my social work career as a therapist in a new private practice that I have the opportunity to help build from the ground up. I am more than excited to take all that I have learned in and out of the classroom during my time here into the world we are constantly creating for the good of all.
“Just keep swimming” has been my motto. Thank you for helping me stay afloat.
